Running Down the Walls is an annual 5K run in solidarity with political prisoners and prisoners of war, held since 1999. Every year, while prisoners organize runs inside prison walls, those on the outside run in solidarity.
This year in Tucson, folks will gather on Sunday, September 7th at 5pm to run a 5k down the Santa Cruz River Trail. The run will end where the trail approaches the yard of the Pima County Adult Detention Complex, where we’ll be holding a noise demo during and after the run to demonstrate solidarity with those held inside.
The 5k is also an opportunity to raise money through sponsorship of runners. Traditionally funds are split between the Anarchist Black Cross Federation’s Warchest and another, local effort — in this case, the Rainbow Defense Fund (information below).
WAYS TO PARTICIPATE:
1. Run, Walk, Wheel or Stroll!
You might ask friends, family members, community organizations or businesses to sponsor you. At the end of the run we will have a little booth set up with water and childcare — if you would like to drop kids off before you run, there will be folks from ABC there to take care of the kids and to greet you when you finish.
The run begins at 5:00PM at the Santa Cruz River trailhead at Speedway & N. Riverside Rd., just west of I-10.
2. Be a Sponsor!
If you, your organization, your church, or business can offer funds to someone who is running, it would be greatly appreciated. See below for more info about the Rainbow Defense Fund and the ABCF Warchest.

To sponsor an individual runner, you can leave a note on the Paypal site or give a donation in person.
3. Meet Up to Make Noise at the End of the Run!
Meet at West Silverlake Rd. and the Santa Cruz River (just west of I-10) to access the trail for the noise demo beginning at 5:00 PM! We’ll be demonstrating our solidarity with those held in the detention complex and meet the runners there. Bring noise!

The Rainbow Defense Fund seeks to raise funds for the bond release of LGBTQ refugee and migrant prisoners at immigration detention centers in Florence and Eloy, Arizona. For more info please see: www.rainbowdefensefund.wordpress.com
The ABCF Warchest program was created in November of 1994. Its purpose is to send monthly financial support to Political Prisoners and Prisoners of War (PP/POWs). The Warchest funds are divided and distributed through monthly stipends to political prisoners who receive little or no financial aid. Prisoners use this money to cover the basic necessities of everyday living. These funds have been used by prisoners to pay for stamps, shoes, clothes, as well as assisting their families with what little they can. For more info please see: www.abcf.net/warchest-program/
